Aechmea nudicaulis ranges from southeastern Mexico (Hidalgo and Veracruz) to southern Brazil; also in the West Indies. It grows in trees and rock outcrops in tropical and semi-deciduous forests, and savanna; up to at least 1,600 m. These are epiphytes, reaching 40-70 cm in height. The leaves are 25-55 cm long, with serrated margins. The inflorescence is spiciform, 3-14 cm long, with 25-60 flowers. The sepals and petals are yellowish. A. nudicaulis is pollinated by hummingbirds, bees, and other taxa.
